Marion Harvie
Mrs. Marion Harvie, Cumbrae's former principal and owner, completed her dance training in Scotland. She is a Teaching Member of the The Royal Academy of Dance (R.A.D) and a Fellow and Teaching Member of the British Association of Teachers of Dancing (B.A.T.D.). Mrs. Harvie is also a Life Member of the B.A.T.D., and held the position of Chairperson of the Eastern Ontario Branch for fifteen years.
Mrs. Harvie moved to Ottawa in 1979 with her husband Jim, and three children, Derek, Lisa, and Amber. She started teaching in local schools and at the Orleans Recreational Complex, before establishing permanent locations, first on Montreal Road in Rothwell Heights, and subsequently in Blackburn Hamlet. Since purchasing our present location in 1986, she has expanded from one to three studios, plus a dance store. In 2008, a further expansion saw the school open an additional studio at the Millenium Plaza at Trim and Innes Roads.
Over the past years Mrs. Harvie has taught as a guest teacher at many other schools and Summer Dance Camps. Mrs. Harvie spends her free time with the Ottawa Cumbrae Dancers. Her young company performs for retirement homes, hospitals, and many other charitable organizations in Ottawa.
Mrs. Harvie teaches R.A.D. examination classes and BATD teacher training classes. She is also a guest teacher throughout the year.
